7/22/2008, 7:30 AM: Steamboat Springs, Colorado: This is my last day of work before heading to Peru. As always I’m cutting it tight. I’m scheduled through noon and then supposed to get picked up around 1:30 to head to Denver and our flight tomorrow. Still have a few items to pack, but compared to my last trip this is pretty simple.

7/22/2008: Denver, CO: Packed my last few items and Jeff, Pete and Matt came by ready to go at 1:15 PM. Kissed Mo good bye and we were on the road. Smooth trip to Denver, hopefully shade of things to come. We picked a few last minute items and back-back meals at REI and then headed to Dana’s (Matt’s wife) fathers home in Denver for the night.

Chuck (Dana’s dad) and his wife Cheryl put us up in style including a barbeque rib dinner. Chuck is one of those people who remembers every incident he has experienced, every person he has ever met, and loves to talk about it. That could be dangerous, but in this case it was highly entertaining. Chuck is a retired plumber who plumbed half of steamboat before hitting a big financial speed bump in his life. He reads about 800 pages a week and remembers it all. I got the feeling that full retirement was a little slow for him.
